is held each spring. One of the most anticipated events
is the announcement of the newest winners of state book awards.
This week, our youngest readers were introduced to
the list of previous winners of the Donna Norvell Award.
This is award presented to a distinguished picture book by
the Sequoyah Committee of the OLA.
Last year's winner was Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes.
It is one of OCS readers' favorites!
Of course, we had to read, sing and rock our way through a read aloud.
Then classes created Pete the Cat bookmarks to take the fun home.
Our oldest readers were not with out their own excitement.
After months of emphasis and encouragement (and...yes... nagging)
to read the 2014 nominees for the Sequoyah Book Award,
it was finally time to vote! Hooray!
because everyone knows that READERS ARE SMARTIES!!!
The results were tabulated and posted to the polling place on line.
Now we have to wait for the state results to be announced at the
beginning of April.
Psstt!!!!
The OCS readers selected:
Sidekicks by Dan Santat as their favorite.
