HISTORY'S ALIVE ! MS. SHEILA VISITS OCS !

Today will be remembered as a highlight of the year for many of our elementary students.

One of our favorite guests, Ms. Sheila Arnold was 

scheduled to share with the 3rd graders and 4th graders

to enrich their literacy and history activities.  

She is a professional storyteller based in Virginia,

who also portrays historical characters.

 Preparations included a a soup luncheon for her and a welcome gift decorated with OCS style.

Ms.Sheila was Mrs. Bass's instructor when she attended the
Colonial Williamsburg Teacher Instititute 6 years ago.
Their friendship has grown through the years 

so that an annual visit with Ms.Sheila is always a special treat. 

Third grade students gathered in Mrs. Warden's room to hear Ms. Sheila
share details about the life of Madam C.J. Walker. 
Students had recently completely reading assignments

about this famous African American.
The stories and demonstrations she led brought the historic character to life for the 3rd graders.

Later in the afternoon, fourth grade students gathered in the auditorium 

for a costumed presentation of a famous colonial person.  

Oney Judge was the personal servant of Martha Washington.  

Her story is one of diligence and courage.  

Several students were selected to interact with her during the presentation to demonstrate the rigors of slavery and capture the atmosphere of colonial life.  What a tremendously enriching experience for these learners to experience history come to life through the dramatic skill of Ms. Sheila.
Her talented presentation was a blessing to both students and teachers.
We pray blessings on her efforts across the United States to share with other schools. 
We are counting the days until she can return!
